Today at the Green Schools Conference and Expo opening plenary, U.S. Green Building Council president and CEO Mahesh Ramanujam announced that the Center for Green Schools and Living Standard are offering scholarships to two students to celebrate and support their commitment to sustainability.
At the Center for Green Schools, we believe that every person, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves to live a long and healthy life. And that work requires not just engaging and educating students on sustainability from a young age — but partnering with them.
It’s ultimately the lives of children and young people who will be most impacted by the climate crisis, which is why it’s critical that we work together, listen to each other’s stories, and collaborate in our effort to build a healthier, more sustainable world.
As Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), mentioned during today’s opening plenary at the Green Schools Conference and Expo, “We can and should be proud of the structures, the features, and the design of these incredible buildings, but I want the foundation of our work to be in our partnerships with students and with each other.“
Which is why I’m so excited to share that the Center for Green Schools and Living Standard are offering scholarships to two students to celebrate their leadership and commitment to sustainability.
To show how much we truly believe in the power of storytelling, the power in highlighting the humanity behind our sustainable actions, and the power in partnering with young people, we are offering scholarships to students who submit videos on how they are leading on sustainability in their schools and communities. The first place winner will earn $2500 and the runner-up will earn $1000 to pursue post-high school education. In addition to receiving the scholarship money, students will be prominently featured on our websites and social media channels.
As Mahesh said today, “If we talk with students — and not at them — then we will not only transform our schools into healthier, safer spaces, but we will also empower young people with the tools for an independently sustainable way of life. And one day, today’s innovative practices will not only be commonplace — they will be expected.”
I hope you’ll consider applying for and sharing this scholarship opportunity. It’s through sharing and listening to each other’s stories that we are able to inspire action in others, and ultimately build a brighter future for everyone.
