Kim Shinn, Principal and Senior Sustainability Wizard at TLC Engineering Solutions, is a renowned leader in the green building community. A LEED Fellow, Kim helped create the Green Guide for Health Care and the LEED for Healthcare rating system.   

Kim is a certified Commissioning Authority and ASHRAE certified Building Modeling Professional. He currently serves on ASHRAE’s Standard Project Committee and has been actively involved in the design or commissioning of over 200 LEED certified projects. He is also a 2020 USGBC Leadership Award recipient for Living Standard.

Having served on the national USGBC Board of Directors from 2007 to 2009, today Kim chairs the USGBC Tennessee Chapter’s Advocacy and Public Policy Committee and he serves on the Nashville Mayor’s Sustainability Advisory Committee.   

He has used his platform to promote LEED and to advance conversations about improving construction practices, standards, and policies. In fact, Kim proudly writes, “I practice engineering because the results of my work can improve and protect the health, safety and welfare of human beings. In short, it’s not my career, it’s my cause.” 

He truly gets it. People like Kim, who get up every day and think of ways to make the experience of moving through this world less difficult and more fulfilling, less toxic and more restorative, and less harmful and healthier are the reasons why USGBC and Living Standard Leadership Awards exist.
